If you’re looking to get started in the exciting, fun and challenging sport of Practical / Action Shooting, you are in the right place!
We're glad you are interested in Rio Salado's Practical Shooting Starter Course (PSSC). The PSSC shows you how to get into "practical" or "action" shooting matches. We want all of our new competitors to understand exactly what our matches demand of every shooter, from safety and match procedures to basic techniques and match commands. And the bonus is that we actually run you through 8 to 9 live "courses of fire".
The PSSC is a MATCH "introduction" course.
The PSSC is also required PRIOR to competing in any of the Practical Division matches at Rio Salado Sportsman's Club, including Tuesday Night Steel. We highly recommend the course before signing up for ANY of the matches at the club, including Multi-Gun. It is the best way to get off to a good, safe start in our sport.
We require you to have an exceptional working knowledge of your pistol and of basic firearm safety.
Practical Shooting events demand that SAFETY is ALWAYS the number one priority. We have an excellent track record in that regard – and intend to do everything we can to educate novice competitors about the safety and procedural rules of the sport, so we’re glad you’re here.
The PSSC is for:
Individuals who are new to competition, not new to pistol shooting.
Individuals who have an exceptional working knowledge of their pistol and basic firearm safety;
Individuals who already know how to safely load, shoot, and unload their pistol;
Individuals who are ready to PARTICIPATE in “Practical Shooting” Matches;
PSSC is REQUIRED for NEW competitors to participate in RSSC “Practical Division” Matches and Tuesday Night Steel;
PSSC also is required for “Draw Status” at Intro To Steel Matches;
The PSSC is physically challenging and requires strength and dexterity, movement, strong / weak-hand-only shooting, and navigating / balancing around obstacles. All persons are required to be in complete control both mentally and physically during the PSSC and at all shooting events.
Please note that the PSSC is NOT a class for small, concealment pistols. You MUST have a pistol that is suitable for competition, i.e. a USPSA Open, Limited, 1911 Single Stack or Production gun. Revolvers must be 6 - 8 shot. In general, handguns with a barrel length LESS than 4 inches are not legal for competition. Please reference the USPSA Production Gun list for the few exceptions: http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-NROI-production-gunlist.php
The PSSC is also NOT a pistol training session or CCW (concealed weapons certification) course. The intention of the PSSC is to show you how to safely and properly participate in the Practical and Steel Matches at RSSC.
